"Around this time, I had my studio walls painted the color of this background. I was painting a lot of figures that had this soft, warm light coming in from a south facing window. The gown she’s wearing ended up in several paintings at that time. There’s a lot of different ways you can tell a story without showing the models face, and that’s what I wanted to achieve here. It gives some ambiguity and mystery to the piece when you can’t see the face." Jeremy Lipking
